A brief itinerary of The Great Mahakam Tour, Borneo, Kalimantan trip
BEFORE THE TRIP STARTS
Everyone meets in Bali, so you can choose your own airline and time you
wish to get there to meet up with the group. Whenever you arrive in "Ngurah Rai" Bali Airport we will be there to greet you.
DAY 1
Everyone will come together in Bali, check into hotel, meet each other, enjoy
dinner and a brief orientation to our upcoming adventure.

DAY 2
A group consensus from the night before will decide what we will do for
the next two days of activities. Half day rafting trip, charter boat for snorkeling,
hike mount "Batur", visit Balinese Hindu Temples, bull races, mountain biking,
evening dance performances, religious ceremonies, Wayang kulit puppet shows,
Fire dance, markets, etc.

Day 4
Fly to Borneo, Kalimantan. On arrival at Sepinggan Airport Balikpapan, meeting services then transfer to your hotel for over night.

DAY 5
After breakfast, drive to Joajanan to begin the Mahakam River Tour heading for Muara Muntai Village.

DAY 6
MUARA MUNTAI – MANCONG – MELAK
Early morning arrive Muara Muntai Village, After breakfast, sight seeing to see the local market and local peoples daily activities. Muara Muntai’s road was built with a hard wood called "Ulin wood ". Then transfer by motorized canoe across the Vast Jempang Lake, here you will see the bigger fisherman village Jantur. Entering the Ohong river passing the floating fishermen house, you will see wildlife and the large nose, " Proboscis" monkeys and the long tail "Macaque" monkeys in the trees. Arrive at Mancong village, a welcome ceremony of Dayak Banuaq will be held by the Chief of the Dayak and traditional dances with his people. Afternoon return to the house boat and continue the trip to Melak. Lunch en-route, dinner and overnight on the boat.

DAY 7
MELAK – PEPAS EHENG – KERSIK LUWAI – GEMURUH – TERING
Arrive in the morning. After breakfast drive to Pepas Eheng to see the Tunjung Dayak Banuaq. Here you will visit the Dayak still living together in one big long house with more than hundred people living there. We will see them still making their traditional handcraft, like Rattan baskets and statues. Afterwards, drive to Kersik Luway to observe the Nature Black Orchid Forest. Return to the houseboat to enjoy lunch, and then transfer by motorized canoe entering the small river for Gemuruh Village passing under a tropical rain forest. In this small village we will see a small Dayak Tunjung community. Later in the afternoon, we return to the houseboat and cruise up the river for Tering. Dinner & Overnight on the boat.

DAY 8
TERING – DATAH BILANG / LONG HUBUNG - TENGGARONG
Morning, arrive at Tering Baru. Transfer by speed boat, cruise up the river to Long Hubung Village. On the way, stop at Datah Bilang to see the Dayak Kenyah Ornament, typical Long House. Arriving at Long Hubung, a welcome Ceremony of Dayak Bahau and performances of their traditional “Dayak Hudoq Dance”. By using the Banana’s leaf, asking for rain and to protect their rice field from any bad animals, so the village will have a good harvest. Afterwards cruise down the river for Tenggarong.

DAY 9
TENGGARONG – LOAJANAN – BALIKPAPAN
In the morning, arrive at Tenggarong. After breakfast visit the Sultan Kutai Kertanegara Palace. Here you can see the Sultan’s collection, such as Chinese ceramic from the Ming dynasty from the14th century. Also the Sultan’s family graveyard situated beside the palace. Return to the boat, having lunch and cruise down the river for Loajanan. On arrival immediately transfer by private car and drive back to Balikpapan. Overnight will be at hotel.

DAY 10
AIRPORT - HOTEL
After breakfast, free time for leisure until we transfer to Sepinggan airport for your onward flight to Banjarmasin for the Orang Utan Tour at Tanjung Putting National Park for 4 days/3 nights. On arrival at Pangkalan Bun airport, transfer to Kumai, the seaport and the gate to reach "Tanjung Putting National Park". On board crossing to Kumai’s river in approximately 15 minutes to reach Seikonyer’s river, the min river in National Park. Lunch will be served on boat by our own cook. We are riding on the boat for about 2 hours to reach Rimba Lodge, where we will stay overnight. Check in at the lodge, enjoy the view surrounding. At 16.30 we continue our tour to observe the Proboscis monkeys and other wildlife along the riverbanks. Proboscis monkeys are endemic, and can be seen only in Borneo. Back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 11
RIMBA LODGE - PONDOK TANGGUI - CAMP LEAKEY - RIMBA LODGE
After break fast, proceed upstream in to Pondok Tanggui the second rehabilitation center where we can enjoy many babies and juveniles at
feeding area around 09.00 AM. After, we continue our tour to reach the highlight of the National Park, Camp Leakey area. We will pass the Black river which is full of wildlife, such as, the Rhinoceros Horn bill, Herons, White Egrets, Argus Pheasants, Storks, Eagles, primates, fish, and also crocodiles. Arriving at Camp Leakey, we hike into the forest to gain information of the heterogentic forest wildlife, while observing some wild animal as well. At 12.00 back to the boat for lunch. Special various foods will be served by our own cook. We continue our tour by following the orangutan feeding program, which is held at 2:00pm. Bringing milk and fruits, the staff will lead us to the state platform and we will enjoy the situation till about 4:00pm. Hike back to the boat, then return down stream to Rimba Lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 12
RIMBA LODGE - KUMAI - AIRPORT - BANARMASIN
After breakfast, we again visit Pondok Tanggui to see the Orangutans at feeding time in the Jungle. Then boating down the river back to Kumai and proceed to the local market. Lunch will be served on the boat. Afterwards drive to Pangkalan Bun Airport for return flight to Banjarmasin. Upon arrival, proceed to the Hotel for your accommodation. Dinner will be at Local restaurant.

DAY 13
BANJARMASIN – FLOATING MARKET – DEPARTURE
Wake up early morning at 5.30 Am, then take Klotok Boat cruise along the Barito River to see the river life and "Floating Market". Afterwards return to Hotel, have breakfast, then transfer to Airport for our return flight to Bali or your next destination. Check into hotel, free time.

This trip will be led by me with the help of Natigor Tours & Travel in Borneo. I do these trips on a personal basis with friends and clients that have done trips with me before. The trips are small , 6 - 8 people, I stick to the itinerary, stay busy but go at a steady, easy pace and stay flexible. I lived in Indonesia for 7 years, and have been to Borneo on many expeditions. In addition to my years of experience as a guide, I have become familiar with their culture and customs, and I speak the Indonesian language.
This is just a general itinerary. Trip itinerary is subject to change,
so we will be prepared for "flexibility" for any situation,
weather conditions, flight or transportation delays, etc.
EXPENSES COVERED
Round trip airfare from Bali to Borneo, Balikpapan to take the Mahakam tour then Banjarmasin for the Orang Utan tour, Domestic airport taxes and all transportation to and from airports. All tours, entertainment and recreation in the itinerary. Lodging in Bali for 4 nights, Mahakam 5 nights, and Orang Utan for 3 nights, in clean comfortable accommodations (based on double occupancy); permits, tips, and donations, cultural performances, ceremonies, porters and local guides.

TERMS
CUSTOMARY PRICE $3,799 per person. Minimum group size: 5 people. Prices subject to change with local economies and airline prices. International and remote travel logistics can be difficult or change at any time. Flexibility is a MUST!
Deposit: A $1,000 deposit is required to hold your spot on this trip and secure airline tickets. The balance to be paid no later than 30 days prior to departure. Refunds on earlier cancellations will depend on airline restrictions.
LIABILITY WAIVER
Everyone is required to sign a standard liability release form before the trip acknowledging awareness and acceptance of some risks during the trip and with travel outside the United States.
