"Asmat Bag"

From the Asmat tribe of Irian Jaya (West New Guinea), Indonesia.
"Kantung Laki-laki" (traditional "Asmat" mens bag). Made from tightly interwoven sago fronds, decorated with duck feathers, feather quils, white coix seeds. Red color from ocher river mud and white color from crushed shells. Asmat mens bags are traditionally carried on the chest or back when hunting or travelling. Note: Because of age and use the carry strap is broken.
Overall dimensions: width-17 inches, height-15 inches.
