The Dani people did not start carving their figures until about 5 years ago.

This carving represents a Dani man in traditional attire. The figure is wearing a "holim" (penis shield from a gourd), rabbit fur arm bands, coix seed & cowrie shell necklace, nose piece and woven inner tree bark fibres hat decorated with orchid fibres, coix seeds, cassowarry feathers and rabbit fur. He is also carrying a wood adze and spear.

Carver is Julius from the Dani tribe (see photo)
