KSS 882 F "CARVED ASMAT PANEL" Photo taken inside "Jeu"
Collected from the Asmat on Expedition November 1995, from AMANAMKAI village, Siretj river,
Irian Jaya, Indonesia.
Five ancestral human figures with body scarfications holding 2 nose ornaments ("Bipane") a headhunting symbol. Also hornbill, egret, and snake figures. Made from maggrove wood, Painted with shell, red ocher river mud and black charcoal. Carving is the same on both sides.
