KSS 907 M "Topeng"
From East Java,Indonesia.
Used during "Wayang topeng" performance of living actors
using masks strapped onto the actors face during the play.
Using this masks the dancers (actors) themselves speak their roles.
This mask is from "Podotrisno" mask dance club founded 1928
in Bulupayung village,Banyuwangi,East Java.
Carved from puli wood.
Very unusual pair of mask,covered with a black crackle paint.
Characters "Bando" and "Bandu" the commedians.
Not used during the performance,only carried
in a procession around the village before
the real mask performance takes place.
