1978 - 1982 Central California - The Early Years
1978 "O.A.R.S."- Outdoor Adventure River Specialists Started rafting as a guide on the Stanislaus River in central California, in the Sierra Mountains.
1979 - 1982 "O.A.R.S."- Outdoor Adventure River Specialists

Continued as a rafting guide and led many commercial trips on all the rivers in central California, in the Sierra Mountains.

Rivers rafted: Tuolumne River , including the Upper Cherry Creek • North, South, and Middle Forks of the American Rivers • Kings River • Merced River • East Carson River • Mc Cloud river • Stanislaus River • Mokelumne River • San Juan River (Utah)

 
1982 - 1986 Northern California
1982 - 1986 All Outdoor Adventures - Outdoors Unlimited - Sierra Mack - Noha's Rafting - Klamath River Outfitters - "T.N.T." Top Notch Tours - Somes Bar Lodge Guide Service - Electric Rafting - White Water Adventures - Sobek Expeditions - O.A.R.S. - Eel River Outfitters - Youngs Ranch - Otter Bar Lodge.

Moved to Northern California to Somes Bar on the Klamath River and continued as a rafting guide and started apprenticeship to become a Salmon and Steelhead fishing guide on all the rivers in the Northwest including Southern Oregon.

Rivers rafted and fished : Klamath River, including the Upper Hells Gate to the Pacific OceanTrinity River • California, North, South and main forks of the Salmon River • Scott River • Smith River • South Fork and main Eel River • Sacramento River • Oregon Rivers • Chetco River • Illinois River • Rogue River

1982 - 1986 O.A.R.S. - Diamond Adventures - Outdoors Unlimited Rafted the Colorado River in the "Grand Canyon" as a guide
 
1986 - 1990 The Greater Northwest
1986 - 1990 Kingfisher Charters - Bristol Bay Floats - Myself, Animal Tours

Went to Alaska as a fishing guide on the Keni River • Kaselof River • Mulchatna River.

Started my own company offering guided river rafting trips - Animal Tours.

Continued Leading trips, Guide Training, River Rescue Seminars, Operations Manager, Testing Equipment for durability, use and technology. Continued working as a Rafting and Fishing Guide in the Northwest.

   

 

 
1990 - 1997 Indonesia - International Expeditions
1990 - 1991 Sobek Expeditions

Moved to Indonesia to explore and help pioneer the first rafting industry in that country. I lived in Indonesia for 7 years.

  • Operations manager and trained the first Balinese guides the skills of rafting on the Ayung River in Bali.
  • Was a team member to successfully complete the "First Descent" on the Sadang River in central Sulawesi for "Sobek Expeditions".
  • Scouted the Masupoo River in central Sulawesi, but never rafted it.
  • Also worked and trained guides for Sobek on the Alas River in north Sumatra, Aceh Tenggara Area.
  • Visited and hiked the Orangutan Rehabilitation Station in Gunung Leuser National Park, at Bukit Lawang on the Bohorok River.
1992 - 1994 Bali Adventure Rafting

Operations Manager - Trained Indonesians to learn the skills of rafting to become rafting guides, conducted river rescue seminars, scouted and rafted other rivers in Bali.

1994 - 1997

Ayung River Rafting

Operations Manager - Trained Indonesians to to learn the skills of rafting to become rafting guides, conducted river rescue seminars, scouted rivers on other Islands, rafted and led trips and Expeditions to other rivers in:

  • Java: Elo River • Citarik River • Suray River
  • Sumatra: Sangir River • Alas River • Andalas River • Kuantan River • Liki River Sibarut Island, Mentawai tribe
  • Kalimantan/Borneo: Suruyan River exploratory, central Kalimantan, with "Ayung River Rafting" and the Department of Tourism of Borneo.
  • Bamboo Rafting on the Loksado River - South Kalimantan.
  • Visited and hiked the Orangutan rehabilitation station in Tanjung.
  • South Kalimantan - Puting National Park on the
    Seikonyer River
    .
  • Irian Jaya - West Papua New Guinea (Member of first team to successfully complete the "First Descent" on the upper Baliem River to the Baliem Valley, 1996.)
  • Led multiple expeditions into the swamps of southern Irian Jaya where once fierce headhunters and cannibals still live, "Asmat" "Korowi" and "Braza tribes".
  • Also led trips into the highlands of Irian Jaya to see the "Dani" "Yali" and the "Lani" tribes, who still live in the
    stone age.
  • Rivers traveled in Irian Jaya: Wildman River • Sirets River • Bets River • Assuwe River • Asewets River • Jomat River • Bow River • Seper River • Braza River • Baliem River
 
1998 - 2007
Back in the U.S.A.
1998 Primitive Destinations International

In 1998, I moved back to the U.S.A. and back to Somes Bar, California. I returned to raft and fish as a guide on the rivers of the Northwest. I also began traveling back to Indonesia to lead adventures and collect more ethnic and primitive art. I started Primitive Destinations International and began dealing in ethnic and primitive art I collected during my travels in Indonesia. I also began offering adventure travels to remote places in Indonesia.

1998

Traveled and led expeditions to Bali, Java, two trips to Irian Jaya, one to the "Asmat" and "Korowi" and one trip to the "Dani" Sumatra Rafting

1999

Primitive Destinations International Traveled and led expedition to Bali, Java, Irian Jaya - to the "Asmat", and to the "Dani"
2000
Primitive Destinations International Traveled and led expeditions to Bali, Java, and the Central West Coast of Sumatra, "Sibarut Island" - Mentawai tribe
2001
Primitive Destinations International Traveled and led expeditions to Bali, Java, and the Central West Coast of Sumatra, "Sibarut Island" - Mentawai tribe
2002 - 2004
Primitive Destinations International

U.S. Tragedy - New York "Twin Towers" 9-11 tragedy and the terrorism scare put a halt to most international travel!

World Tragedy - Tsunami, Earth Quakes, SARS, Bird Flu, instability of the Muslim uprising, and wars in Iraq and Afganistan continue to limit international travel, including Indonesia.

2005 Primitive Destinations International

Traveled and led expeditions to Bali, Java, to explore, access the damage from the Tsunami in Indonesia, and reestablish connections for travel in Indonesia.

Led a 14 day, Grand Canyon, Colorado River trip.

2006
Primitive Destinations International Traveled and led expeditions to Bali, Java and the highlands of "Irian Jaya" to see the "Dani Tribe".
