KSS 2053 Sh
This particular style shield is found in the "Sawa Erma" area.
The bold motifs of the flying fox and sting ray fish are very strong head hunting symbols.
This is a very unusual shield being the handle is not made from the same piece of mangrove wood, and not evident of a broken handle before. The handle was added after the shield was made and looks like the original, from the smooth used patina. Also this is a heavy shield showing evidents of patina on the edges, from being carried a lot.
Decorated with sago fronds, and a few chips missing around the edges. Old stains front and back and fadded patina at the bottom. An old, well used shield.
Height: 54 inches .
Bottom: 22 inches wide.
Head: 10 inches wide.
