KSS43: Coastal Asmat Shield with male ancestral carving on top. From Irian Jaya, Indonesia.

Front: The double shell nose piece design, "Bipane," is a status and head-hunting symbol. "S" shapes are open clearings in the jungle and/or cuscus tails.

Back of Shield: double grip handle and painted zig zag, wiggling worm motif called "Asuk Fofasi".

Colors: White - Crushed Shell; Red - Ocher River Mud; Black - Charcoal.

Made from the Buttress Root of a Mangrove Tree. Height: 4' 11". Width: 18".
