From the Asmat tribe of Irian Jaya (West New Guinea),Indonesia.
Made from Nibung palm tree wood, decorated with intricately
woven inner tree bark fibres,
coix seeds, feather quills and cockatoo feathers attached with beeswax.
A very sharp cassowarry claw attached with beeswax is used for the spear tip.
The carved blade has remnants of red ocher mud in the grooves.
A spear like this was used for ceremonies, hunting big game or used in
warfare for killing man.
